Who we are
Vaka · Inventors Unleashed Pacific Islands is a programme in preparation that will help young inventors in the Pacific Island countries and territories and across the Pacific diaspora protect their inventions, build them and meet investors. What we collect
Only what you type into our forms: your name, country or territory, contact details, age group, the name and description of your invention, and whether it draws on traditional or community knowledge; for investors and partners, your organisation and interests. For nominations, we receive the details you provide about the person you nominate.
Why we collect it
- To review your submission or registration and reply to you.
- To introduce your invention to investors or partners, only after you agree.
- To organise the Vaka Prize and Crown the Creators, and to contact nominees.
- To contact you when submissions open in Vaka's own name.
Keeping inventions confidential
Submissions are private by default. Reviewers and investors who see an invention agree to confidentiality terms first, and nothing is published without the inventor's written consent. Please describe what your invention does, not the technical details of how it works, until we have discussed protection with you.
Traditional knowledge
Where an invention draws on traditional or community knowledge, we will not publish, file or share it with investors until the prior informed consent of the community concerned has been obtained and a fair benefit-sharing arrangement has been agreed.
Participants under 18
Inventors aged 16 or 17 may take part only with the agreement of a parent or guardian. We do not publish information about participants under 18 without that agreement, and contact with investors is supervised.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with reviewers, mentors, patent professionals and investors involved in your application, with your agreement, and with service providers who process form submissions on our behalf.
How long we keep it
We keep application records while you take part in the programme and for a reasonable period afterwards. You may ask us to delete your information at any time.

You may ask to see, correct or delete your information, or withdraw your consent, by contacting us at the address or telephone number above.
